I love talking about autism!
To be honest it wasn’t always that way because it wasn’t even a word I knew to use. I had to advocate for our daughter because she was never “flagged” for autism (we got our label at 4.5 years old and without my advocacy she would have probably been a teenager like most girl’s with aspergers/ high functioning autism).
I want autism to be a word that your family uses with knowledge and power… not a life curse but an understanding of the beautiful way that individuals on the spectrum think & see the world. (It’s not wrong… it’s just different!)
There are a lot of “labels” & “terms” and I want to create a safe space where you never have to worry about saying the wrong thing. (normal, nuerotypical, autistic, on the spectrum, aspergers, high functioning, etc.) If you want to get caught up in the labels and the correct words, this may not be the place for you.
If you want to learn about your grandchild and educate yourself in a way that empowers you to have a relationship with them, then you are definitely in the right place! And I am so excited you are here!
